Our July Cake Decorator of the Month is Filippo from Filippo's Bakery. He is a very talented young Italian cake decorator! He started decorating cakes when he was very young and now he divides his life and his passion/profession between Padua and Brescia. He has his own you tube channel where he posts many of his recipes, and of course we invite you to follow him on his Instagram profile (Filippo's Bakery) as well!
1. How Filippo’s Bakery come to be?
If there's one thing I've always been sure about, it's my passion for pastry. Since I was a child I have always loved cooking with my mom, then I discovered the fabulous world of pastry and specifically cake design, which was able to combine my passion for art with that for sweets.
Also I have always loved everything related to America and the American Dream, from the combination of all these things was born
Filippo's Bakery which is a container to express myself through my creations.
2. Where did you learn your Cake Decorating?
I studied basic pastry in high school for 5 years. I started working in this sector very early so I was able to see different realities. Unfortunately when I started this path in Italy cake design was not yet very well known, so I tried it alone at home or through international magazines or videos that I found on youtube.
3. What is your favorite part about being a cake decorator?
The thing I like most is that every day I create something different and unique. I can express myself 100%. When I am cooking or decorating something I escape from the reality that surrounds me and I feel at peace.
4. Are you cake decorator full time? What about your day?
Yes, I am a full time cake decorator.
It is difficult to tell about my day because I do so many things, from talking to customers about their order, to buying the necessary material for cakes, cooking, preparing cookies, cleaning, preparing invoices (ahaha), delivering orders, post on social networks, etc ...
I think I'm a very organized person because I want to have the time available to do everything right.
5. Do you have any advice for those who want to approach Cake Decorating?
Don't be afraid to make a mistake, if you really like it, go headlong into this job. You will have to make a lot of sacrifices, but in the end they will all pay off.
6. Do you have someone who inspired you? (You can tag 3/4 IG accounts)
There are tons of talented people who inspire me every day. Among these are certainly: @sheri_wilson @pamela_cake_planner_ @le_torte_di_renato @daniflowers
7. What’s your favorite product from PinkAlmonds shop?
The thing I like most about Pink Almonds first of all are its owners, Angela and Pamela, they are two wonderful people who are always kind and available at any time. As for the products, on the other hand, I love: PINK DONUTS CAKESICLES MOLD, MINI CHOCOLATE BARS MOLD and of course all the COLOUR MILL (I hope someday to have them all ahahaha).
